City Hall The Hague | Installation

For client museum Panorama Mesdag, Niels van Hout designed shop windows at department store de Bijenkorf. Afterwards VERVOLMAKEN was commissioned to display the panels into a new installation to promote the Mesdag year at the Atrium of City Hall The Hague for three months.

Niels translated the graphic designs of the museum with the colors of Mesdag’s paintings into a spatial installation. With the 18 panels of 238 selected and hand-painted objects, VERVOLMAKEN tells the story of Hendrik Willem Mesdag as artist, collector and entrepreneur.

De Bijenkorf The Hague | Window Display

After the success of previous display designs for the museum, Panorama Mesdag commissioned VERVOLMAKEN again to develop a concept and design for windows at department store de Bijenkorf in The Hague.

This time for the occasion of the exhibition "Chansons Grises" with creations by Peter George d' Angelino Tap. VERVOLMAKEN framed Tap’s dresses to create museological windows. The mannequins rotate in the framework to enhance the theatrical experience.

To attract the shopper’s attention to the museum’s visual communication, the text cubes turn into all different directions. A mural sketch by Tap was used as giant backdrop to complete the visual spectacle.

The rotation of the cubes and the mannequins make the display a dynamic eye-catcher.

De Bijenkorf | Window Display

The Hague Philharmonic commissioned VERVOLMAKEN to
design and produce three shop windows at De Bijenkorf department store.

Niels van Hout translated their campaign ‘music touches, music moves, music meets’ in three encounters shrouded in clouds of music.

Two mannequins stand face to face in clouds of sheet music and music stands.
With turning elements of music stands and sheets make the clouds move, and gives it the typical VERVOLMAKEN touch.

Three musical encounters that provide inspiration to the public.

The Hague Philharmonic | Window Display

The Hague Philharmonic commissioned VERVOLMAKEN to design and produce three shop windows at De Bijenkorf department store.

Niels van Hout used large blow ups from their campaign as a backdrop in the three windows full of mirrors and musical instruments.

The installation was designed in an interactive way that the passengers could position themselves in front of the mirror and make a selfie as if they are playing an instrument displayed. By uploading it on The Hague Philharmonic Facebook, concerttickets could be won.

Art Centre Rotterdam Shop | Interior

Rotterdam Visual Art Centre CBK commissioned VERVOLMAKEN to design a mobile shop.

A new store interior of mobile VERVOLMAKEN display designs. Based on Niels' signature design method to create furniture in its most minimal and aesthetic form.

Five mobile display units, moveable into a variety of different shop settings. Also easily removable for art events at CBK. The design is adjusted to the wide range of different products that are sold in the shop: every cube can be shifted inside or outside of the framework: adjustable to the ever changing product range.

For this shop interior design Niels van Hout used wooden slats as base material giving the display units a feel of transparency. The grey and white colors match the interior and let the products speak for themselves.

A flexible interior puzzle that can create a monthly new look to inspire customers, to spend time and money in the shop.

CBK Shop | Interior

Rotterdam Visual Art Centre CBK commissioned VERVOLMAKEN to design their brand new art & design store.

Niels van Hout presented a new vision on the ground floor of CBK Rotterdam with the purpose to implement a large design store and improvement of the routing.

The big display cabinet divides the space without losing the building’s characteristic transparancy. It also has a walkthrough passage to the gallery and accommodates the shop products of local Rotterdam artists and designers. The thought through measurements of the cabinet’s design -every single product has its own unique museological spot- to encourage sales.

The split-level presentation tables offer large scale surfaces for product display. The various directions of the table and height differences makes it possible to divide the merchandise in themes.

The cabinet and the concentrated table sets make a simple and clear routing.
Besides the design Niels van Hout was also appointed freelance curator and visual merchandiser of the Art Store.

Martine Viergever Shop | Installation

Jewelry designer Martine Viergever commissioned VERVOLMAKEN to design and produce a display installation for the launch of the MOHS 5.5. high fashion jewelry collection.

Viergever: “The installation evokes associations of an archaeologist’s camp or a gold miners hut. It paints the picture of the design process which became a search for the most beautiful glass fragments. While detecting, digging, sifting and reconstructing, Martine Viergever comes up with her own artifacts. MOHS 5.5 is design experiment that favours the aesthetic qualities of a simple glass splinter.”

VERVOLMAKEN constructed the MOHS 5.5 display with recycled window frames, glass and tentpoles perfected with styling accessories and lighting.

The installation went on a successful tour calling at Options! shop Amsterdam, Humanoid Arnhem, Objet Trouvé Rotterdam and Kazerne Eindhoven during Dutch Design Week.

University Tilburg | Interior

Commissioned by Colour By S.A.M. of Suzan Kuppens, VERVOLMAKEN collaborated on the redesign of the Prisma Building’s central hall of Tilburg University.

VERVOLMAKEN designed three large cabinets and was part of the interior design, as well as responsible for all technical drawings.

Colour by S.A.M. and VERVOLMAKEN turned this grizzled dark passage hall into a colorful social meeting space for students and their professors.

The three cabinets have their own unique function; the big red cabinet hides a diverse range of technical elements and marks the lounge area. The cube cabinet is a playful structure for displaying projects. Different working spots are incorporated in the lower cabinet and is a magazine display as well as a room divider.

Pop up Shop | Interior

Rotterdam Visual Art Centre CBK commissioned VERVOLMAKEN to create a pop-up shop.

A temporary pop-up until the art & design store at the Nieuwe Binnenweg in Rotterdam was realized. The new store interior has also been designed and curated by VERVOLMAKEN.

White cardboard boxes with CBK logo form stacked display objects.
Depending on the ever changing product display; a fun and easy way to quickly adjust this temporary furniture to the store’s needs.

During the course of the pop-up store Niels van Hout was also appointed visual merchandiser of the shop.

Private Client | Interior

For a private client, with a great love for seventies design, VERVOLMAKEN made several interior design proposals to renovate an apartment in the centre of Rotterdam.

To open up the space, VERVOLMAKEN knocked down walls and created new living areas by wooden partition panels. As one big gesture, the wooden cube accommodates the bathroom, bedroom and storage.

De Bijenkorf Rotterdam | Window Display

Operadagen Rotterdam commissioned VERVOLMAKEN to design and produce shop windows at De Bijenkorf department store Rotterdam. This year’s theme (R)evolution - Freedom is represented by symbolic and moving elements.

The contemporary world of Operadagen Rotterdam escapes from boundaries, and moves from (R)evolution - left window - to Freedom - right window.

Out of the white box emerges a diverse range of symbolic elements: protest, captivity, music and freedom. Red/white barrier tape makes a symbolic attempt to hold all elements together, but freedom will triumph in this window display.

Operadagen Rotterdam | Window Display

Operadagen Rotterdam commissioned VERVOLMAKEN to design and produce
window displays at De Bijenkorf, for the 3rd consecutive year. The theme of the 10th edition of Operadagen Rotterdam was (R)evolution - Equality.

The window showcases a spatial structure, based on the programmed opera The Game. In this modern play every individual is looking for or demands his place in society.

To design a contemporary display Niels used as starting point his signature design method to create impact with basically nothing. PVC pipes and campaign posters were turned into a life size game structure: simplicity vs. multiplicity.

The window contains many moving elements to show the ongoing process of The Game.
This setting also served as a special " city stage " for various live performances.
NOS news made a reportage from the VERVOLMAKEN window to showcase ‘the out of the box’ programming of Operadagen Rotterdam.

Platform Cottage into Kiosk | Exterior

Niels van Hout and Antoinette Hendriks save the original platform cottage of acclaimed architect Sybold of Ravesteyn from demolition at Rotterdam Central Station.

Van Hout and Hendriks got fascinated by the platform houses during their daily commutes by train.
The level of cuddliness, size ratio and design details make the former platform toilets and storage very attractive.

The expected demolition encouraged them to undertake action.
A cry for help by VERVOLMAKEN in the newspaper led to the careful dismantling and rescue of this monumental house by property developer Robin von Weiler.

The perfect relocation is the next step: a kiosk near Rotterdam Central Station or a tea-pavilion in a park.

Banner into Festival Tent | Exterior

For the RE:FRAME competition VERVOLMAKEN developed in collaboration with Antoinette Hendriks the Festiviteitenkot. A recycled festive tent.

Starting point was to create a social space for neighbours to meet. Niels and Antoinette created a completely recycled festival tent out of used stretchers, garden chair frames, old tent poles and a giant mesh advert banner.

In it’s previous life the banner was used as a mega-advert for a lingerie brand on the Damsquare in Amsterdam. A seamless pattern was cut out of this mesh advert and fixed with recycled cords and braces on the recycled stretchers, frames and tent poles to make up this environmentally friendly party space.

Garage into Holiday Home | Exterior

Commissioned by Charlotte Wooning, VERVOLMAKEN was asked to design a holiday home from an existing garage in the back garden.

The architectural drawings contain proposals for the interior as well as exterior of the former garage.

Niels van Hout explored the existing qualities, before 'perfecting' it with own design.

In collaboration with Studio Thomas Voorn, VERVOLMAKEN produced a bedside table in the shape of a ladder with integrated sewing box.

Every room showcases an aspect of fashion in Design Hotel Modez curated by fashion illustrator Piet Paris. In Thomas Voorn’s designed room the theme is sewing accessoiries: haberdashery.

Cupboard | Interior

VERVOLMAKEN designed these two cubical cupboards as -almost- identical twins.

The starting point of the design, were the products themselves. The shelving was designed around it. The thought through measurements of the cupboard’s design, gives every single piece its own unique spot. In a way that everything suits perfectly in this playful graphical design.

Niels van Hout was invited to present his Happy Recession products at the windows of jeansstore Rambam during Dutch Design Week.

A festive gathering of the happy recession chairs, vases and table on the doorstep of better economic times. In this window display an army of protesting
animals calls it a day for Dutch recession times.

With turning elements like vases on turntables and rotating plants from the ceiling gives it the typical VERVOLMAKEN touch.

Operadagen Rotterdam commissioned VERVOLMAKEN to design and produce windows at department store de Bijenkorf, for the 2nd year. The theme of the 9th edition of Operadagen Rotterdam was (R)evolution - Brotherhood.

Niels composed an army of activist mannequins that symbolizes this year’s theme. This massive protest group covered with tape and anonymous masks occupies the windows at the department store. Fans make their large flags wave, attract the shopper’s attention to the festival.

As a teaser for the festival the window display was used as a stage for a live performance of the modern Operadagen Rotterdam.
